Friends of the Oakland Public School Libraries offers its Books Kids Want to Read grants and 21st Century Library grants to all Oakland public school libraries.

Books Kids Want to Read grant FAQs
This grant is intended to replace lost and worn books, fulfill student requests and buy book in popular series.

  • Grant applications will be available on December 15th.
  • Grants are awarded in mid-January
  • School libraries with OUSD library staff
  • High need schools
  • Schools that have not received previous funding.

Our skilled (and friendly!) volunteers can help you with inventories, deleting books you’ve weeded, shelving, shelf reading, book repair and book covering and cataloging with your direction. Fill out the form below with the type of work you’d like us to do, let us know your timeline, and we’ll do our best to help you with your project.

Request a 21st Century grant

21st Century grants are offered year round to public school libraries to provide funding for book clubs, maker activities, technology needs or to partially fund library program. Grants range between $50 and $250.

Check back in October for our grant application for this new funding opportunity.
