DAgmar Serota, Executive Director
Dagmar Serota joined Friends of the Oakland Public School Libraries in 2017 as a Program Coordinator. She became Development Director in 2018 and was promoted to Executive Director in 2019. In addition to a wealth of business and non-profit management and fundraising experience, Dagmar brings her profound love of books and libraries and her strong commitment to bringing the joy of a school library to all students in Oakland.
Dagmar spent more than 20 years in the securities industry, working in financial and business analysis, marketing and product management, strategic planning and project management for Sutro & Company, GT Global and Charles Schwab, and as a consultant for the Chicago Stock Exchange.
In 2004, Dagmar founded and served as Executive Director of Good Cents for Oakland, a non-profit organization serving thousands of students in oakland and Los Angeles. Dagmar earned the Jefferson Award for Public Service for her work. Good Cents for Oakland was honored by the Alameda County Community Food Bank with the Hope Not Hunger award. In 2011, working as a volunteer, Dagmar reopened the library at Sankofa Academy. During her five years at Sankofa, she managed weekly visits for 400 students, from TK-8th grade and was introduced to Friends of the Oakland Public School Libraries’ important work.
Dagmar is a past director of East Bay Habitat for Humanity (Now Habitat for Humanity East Bay). She served as Board Chair, Vice Chair and Trustee at Redwood Day School and co-chaired its Here We Grow Capital Campaign and served as a co-chair of the Parents’ Annual Fund at The College Preparatory School.
