Charles (Chip) Rath III, MD, (retired) holds medical speciality boards in internal medicine and emergency medicine. He managed a private practice and worked in the Kaiser Hayward Emergency department. He served as an executive at Kaiser regional headquarters for the Permanente Medical Group.

Thomas Kaun, retired, was a teacher librarian and classroom teacher for 40 years in public and private schools throughout California. He served on the board of the California School Library Association (CSLA) and served as President of the Northern Section of CSLA. Tom most recently served on the board of the California School Library Foundation. Member, FOPSL Book Club
Board Secretary and Treasurer
Elaine Wells, retired, was a Speech/Language Pathologist. She has worked in public schools, Oakland Children’s Hospital and had a private practice. Elaine helped establish a school for special needs children and served on the school’s board as well as the Advisory Board for the National Stuttering Association. Member, FOPSL Book Club
Dick Anderson, retired, worked for Kaiser Permanente for 31 years, serving as VP, Corporate Director of Medical Economics, Marketing and Health Policy functions. Dick also served for 3 terms on the Federal Physician Payment Review Commission. He served as Chairman of the Greater Oakland YMCA. Member, FOPSL Book Club
Ann Gallagher, retired, served as OUSD’s District Librarian from 2007 to June 2015, where she was responsible for 75 library sites. She has 25 years experience as a middle and high school Teacher librarian in Southern California and Maine. Ann served as a Board member and trainer for Literacy Volunteers of America in Maine. Member, FOPSL Book Club
Kathy Poly, retired, was an insurance executive with more than 40 years experience in the field. Kathy lived in Europe for over 15 years before returning to Oakland. Member, FOPSL Book Club
Nancy Rowell, retired, is a Teacher-Librarian and also holds an Administrative Credential. Most recently, Nancy was the Administrator of Library Media Services for Pleasanton Unified School District (USD). As a consultant, she worked with Roseville City Schools, Western Placer USD, and other schools and districts in Northern California. Nancy was a Lecturer at CSU, Chico and served as Coordinator of Library Services for San Mateo County Office of Education.
Ellen Snook, brings more than 25 years of corporate public relations/marketing and nonprofit communications experience to FOPSL. She has worked for public relations firms in Chicago and San Francisco and served as director of communications for the nonprofit, Women’s Initiative. Ellen has provided communications consultation for nonprofits including Opportunity Fund, BizWorld.org, and the Sierra Club. Member, FOPSL Book Club
Shelby Solomon, retired from Intel Corporation after a thirty year career working as a systems programmer, network designer, and strategic planner.
Natalie van Tassel, retired, was a high school counselor. Natalie has served on the boards of East Bay Agency for Children and Volunteering for Oakland. She volunteers at Next Step Learning Center.
